Product Description
Scavenger Flotation Cell for Mineral Processing and Ore Recovery
Product Overview

Scavenger flotation cells are used in mineral processing circuits to recover valuable minerals remaining in the tailings after rougher flotation. Instead of focusing on concentrate upgrading, scavenger flotation provides an additional recovery stage before material leaves the flotation circuit.
Depending on ore characteristics and process requirements, one or multiple scavenging stages can be arranged to further recover floatable valuable minerals. The equipment can be integrated into roughing, cleaning and scavenging circuits for suitable metallic and non-metallic mineral flotation applications.

Application Process

After rougher flotation, some valuable mineral particles may remain in the rougher tailings. A scavenger flotation stage processes this stream again to recover additional floatable minerals before final tailings discharge.
A simplified flotation circuit can be represented as:
Ore Slurry → Rougher Flotation → Rougher Tailings → Scavenger Flotation → Final Tailings
The recovered scavenger product may be returned to another stage or processed further depending on the flotation flowsheet.

Key Features
  • Recovery from Rougher Tailings - Designed for scavenging stages where additional valuable mineral recovery is required after rougher flotation
  • Flexible Circuit Configuration - One or multiple scavenging stages can be arranged according to ore characteristics and flotation requirements
  • Wide Cell Volume Range - Available configurations cover different processing requirements with effective cell volumes from 1 m³ to 160 m³
  • Suitable for Flotation Circuits - Can be integrated with rougher and cleaner flotation stages as part of the overall mineral processing circuit
  • Multiple Mineral Applications - Suitable for various metallic and non-metallic ores where froth flotation is an appropriate separation method
Working Principle

Rougher tailings enter the scavenger flotation cell for further separation. Under suitable aeration, agitation and reagent conditions, remaining hydrophobic valuable mineral particles attach to air bubbles and rise to the slurry surface.
The mineralized froth is collected for further processing, while the remaining slurry proceeds toward final tailings treatment or discharge. Actual flotation performance depends on ore properties, mineral liberation, particle size, reagent conditions, aeration and flotation time.

Typical Flotation Circuit

Grinding & Classification → Conditioning → Rougher Flotation → Scavenger Flotation
Meanwhile: Rougher Concentrate → Cleaner Flotation → Final Concentrate
The exact circuit arrangement should be determined according to the ore characteristics and flotation test results.

Applicable Minerals

Scavenger flotation can be applied to suitable flotation processes involving:

  • Copper-bearing minerals
  • Lead-zinc minerals
  • Molybdenum-bearing minerals
  • Gold-bearing sulfide ores
  • Fluorite and other non-metallic minerals
  • Other minerals suitable for froth flotation

Equipment configuration should be selected according to the actual ore and process conditions.

Equipment Selection Information

For scavenger flotation equipment selection, the following information is useful:

  • Ore type and target mineral
  • Processing capacity
  • Rougher tailings flow rate
  • Feed particle size
  • Mineral composition
  • Required scavenging stages
  • Flotation test results
  • Existing flotation flowsheet

For an existing processing plant, providing information about the current rougher and tailings circuit can help determine a suitable flotation configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is scavenger flotation?

Scavenger flotation is an additional flotation stage used to recover floatable valuable minerals remaining in rougher tailings.

What is the difference between cleaner and scavenger flotation?

Cleaner flotation processes rougher concentrate to improve concentrate quality, while scavenger flotation processes rougher tailings to recover additional valuable minerals.

Can more than one scavenger stage be used?

Yes. The number of scavenging stages depends on ore characteristics, flotation requirements and circuit design.

How do I select a scavenger flotation cell?

Selection should consider rougher tailings flow rate, ore properties, particle size, required flotation time and overall flotation circuit design.
