Gold Flotation Testwork Highlights the Importance of Flotation Equipment Selection

Recent metallurgical testwork at the Twin Hills Gold Project has highlighted the potential of flotation in gold processing and the importance of testwork when developing a flotation flowsheet.

According to a report released on October 21, 2026, initial rougher flotation tests achieved approximately 92% to 99% gold recovery on composite samples from the project's 309 and Lone Sister deposits. Tests were conducted at different grinding sizes to evaluate flotation performance.

Flotation Testwork for Gold Processing

The results demonstrate how grinding conditions and flotation parameters can affect gold recovery. Further testwork is planned to optimize reagent selection, concentrate cleaning, mineralogy, gravity recovery, and the treatment of flotation concentrates. The final processing flowsheet has not yet been selected.

For gold ore processing plants, flotation equipment should therefore be selected according to the ore characteristics and results of metallurgical testing rather than processing capacity alone.

Important considerations include:

  • Ore type and mineral characteristics

  • Processing capacity

  • Grinding fineness and pulp conditions

  • Rougher, scavenger, and cleaner requirements

  • Flotation residence time

  • Aeration and pulp circulation

  • Wear-part service life and maintenance requirements

Choosing Flotation Equipment for Gold Recovery

A suitable flotation machine or flotation cell should match the characteristics of the ore and the requirements of the flotation circuit. Equipment configuration can vary depending on whether flotation is used for roughing, scavenging, cleaning, or combined recovery.

Y&X supplies flotation machines, flotation cells, and polyurethane rotor and stator sets for gold, copper, zinc, and polymetallic ore processing applications.

For a flotation equipment recommendation, customers can provide the ore type, processing capacity, grinding fineness, flotation test results, and required flotation stage. Y&X can then evaluate suitable equipment options based on the process requirements.
